“Landsec has shown real dedication to unlocking Social Value throughout the entire development lifecycle. As partners on this journey, we’re excited to see what the future holds for Landsec’s developments.”
Tessa Alcorn, Director of Place-Based Services at Social Value Portal
Background
Landsec, one of the UK’s largest real estate developers, is committed to creating places that deliver social, economic and environmental benefits for communities. To embed social value throughout its development activities, Landsec began working with Social Value Portal in 2018, adopting the Social Value TOM System™ to measure and manage impact. Over time this collaboration evolved into a full‑lifecycle model spanning feasibility, design, construction, and occupation phases.
Solution implemented
Social Value Portal supported Landsec to embed social value at every stage of the development process, starting with local needs analysis and community engagement during feasibility and planning. For its 55 Old Broad Street project, this included workshops, surveys, and consultation events that informed public benefits aligned with local priorities such as mental health and wellbeing. The partnership extended into design optimisation with sustainability targets, procurement guidance with social value weighting, and ongoing planning for post‑construction activities including community spaces and creative programmes.
Outcome delivered
Landsec’s approach has positioned social value as a core strategic objective, not a transactional add‑on. The Social Value TOM System™ enables transparent, third‑party validated measurement of outcomes, avoiding ‘value washing’ while quantifying benefits. Central to Landsec’s strategy is Landsec Futures, their social mobility programme that aims to generate around £200m social value for local communities, supporting at least 30,000 people from underrepresented backgrounds towards long-term employment by 2030. Through continued community engagement, measurable outcomes and lifecycle integration, Landsec is delivering sustainable, positive impact for people and places.
