Intec used OpenSpace’s automated 360° capture to monitor, verify and manage the rollout of millions of solar panels across large-scale utility projects.
Reduced rework and on-site disputes
Installation progress tracked remotely
As-built records
created automatically
Faster issue resolution and approvals
“One of the main advantages for us is the fact that we now have a nearly live image of the construction site. We can see what has happened, what has been built and where there might be issues. So we can also react promptly to those issues and discuss them with the international and local project team.”
Karsten Ley, Project Manager and Renewable Energy Expert, Intec
Background
Intec Energy Solutions is a global EPC contractor delivering over 3 GW of solar PV projects across Europe, Asia and Africa. With installations covering hundreds of hectares, tracking daily progress across multiple subcontractors and installation phases was becoming increasingly difficult. Intec needed a scalable solution to improve visibility, document installation progress, and reduce costly errors during delivery of utility-scale solar farms.
Solution implemented
To manage the complexities of installing millions of solar panels across large, remote sites, Intec adopted OpenSpace’s automated reality capture platform. Team members mounted 360° cameras to their helmets during routine walks, capturing real-time site conditions—such as panel installation, mounting structure assembly, trench excavation, and cable routing. OpenSpace’s software used AI to automatically map imagery to the project’s site plan, enabling precise tracking of completed sections and validating installation sequences. This provided engineers and managers with an accurate, up-to-date visual timeline of each project phase without needing to be physically on site.
Outcome delivered
Using OpenSpace, Intec established a clear and verifiable record of solar panel installations across multiple sites, reducing reliance on manual progress reporting and minimising the risk of error. The platform helped resolve discrepancies between site teams and subcontractors by offering objective visual evidence of completed work, preventing rework and delays. As-built documentation was generated automatically and used to validate handovers, verify milestones for client billing, and streamline internal quality checks. The approach increased confidence, speed, and accuracy across Intec’s solar construction operations.
