Jonathan is a Co-Founder and Managing Director of the Taronga Group of companies. Jonathan has more than 23 years’ experience in the real estate sector, having held senior positions with listed entities, sovereign wealth funds and insurance groups in major global markets, including Australia, Sweden, Abu Dhabi, Singapore and China. Prior to founding Taronga Group, Jonathan was the Group Executive, Capital at Mirvac. In this role, Jonathan was a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Investment Committee and the Diversity and Inclusion Council. Key responsibilities included managing Mirvac’s existing $1B Fund Management business and cultivating wholesale equity relationships. During his time at Mirvac the business established a $400M Australian Office Alliance with TIAA-CREF as well as a residential partnership with Ping An. Jonathan remains as Mirvac’s representative on the Etihad Stadium Board in Melbourne.
In previous roles Jonathan was a Director at Areim, in Stockholm, Sweden. The role involved bringing in new capital to the Areim Funds and assisting Swedish and Nordic investors with their international investment strategies.
Prior to joining Areim, Jonathan was the Head of Real Estate – Asia for the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) where he invested equity of more than US$6 billion in more than 50 transactions across all sectors in Asia and Australia. He has also held senior roles with ING Real Estate in Singapore and FPD Savills in Singapore, the Philippines and spent more than 7 years in Beijing, China. Jonathan’s time in China included representing the Taisun Group, a venture capital firm that invested across 19 projects in China from 1993-1995.
Jonathan most recently attended an INSEAD Advanced Management Programme in Singapore, has an MBA from the University of South Australia and undergraduate degrees in Urban Planning from Melbourne University. In 1993 he did a postgraduate program in Urban Planning at Tsinghua University. He is Deputy Chair of the International Capital Markets Division of the Property Council of Australia, a member of Anrev and a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
